The problem

Nigerian businesses routinely run on a mix of grid, generator, and inverter power but have no real data on how much each source is actually used or costing them — decisions about fuel and capacity are made by guesswork.

What was built

A hardware-plus-software system: IoT sensor units that monitor voltage, current, and active power source in real time, reporting to a dashboard that breaks down usage and estimated cost by source over time.

Notable engineering

• Sensor units report over MQTT with store-and-forward buffering for sites with intermittent internet
• Power-source switching detected and logged automatically rather than requiring manual entry
• Cost estimation model calibrated per fuel price and tariff input so figures reflect real local costs
